In an unexpected twist, the Check It gang, which has grown to include members aged between 14 and 22, finds a way out of their violent existence through an avenue they hadn’t initially considered: fashion. With guidance from Mo, a former convict and now the gang’s leader, members of Check It turn their attention to creating their own clothing line and even begin participating in fashion shows and runway modeling. Though fashion becomes their creative outlet and potential escape, breaking the cycle of violence and poverty they have known for their entire lives remains a monumental challenge.
The documentary delves deeply into the harsh realities faced by these youth—young people who have been pushed to the margins of society due to their sexuality, gender identity, and race. At the same time, it portrays the resilient spirit that defines the gang members.
